Rome and the Romans have long considered pizza their characteristic dish. If you dare to declare in a Roman pizzeria that real pizza comes from Naples, the Romans will indulgently shake their heads. That’s probably because the Romans have their own signature pizza. The crust is thin and crispy as opposed to the traditional Naples-style or Neapolitan pizza which has a higher crust and usually more substantial toppings. Furthermore, Rome holds its own with its vast
number of pizzerias. Some 2,000 dot the Eternal City, according to
the Rome’s Chamber of Commerce.
The photos in this gallery are from these six pizzerias: Pizzeria Est, Est, Est, Pizzeria Remo, Pizzeria Ai Marmi, Gusto, Pizzeria Formula 1 and Bir & Fud.
Buon appetito!
